Wolfeton Manor is a compassionate palliative care home in Dorchester with staff trained to do everything they can to ensure our residents are comfortable during their stay.
Searching for a care home that provides palliative and end-of-life care for your loved one can be a difficult time for everyone. With emotions running high and so many options available, it can feel overwhelming. We are here to support you and your loved ones through this, making what feels complicated, simple.
Our care home is located in the charming village of Charminster, Dorchester. Set next to the river Cerne, it is a relaxing and calming place for this emotionally charged time.
A palliative care home offers care for those with terminal illnesses. In place of focusing on curing a condition, it shifts to ensuring the individual is as comfortable as possible.
Palliative care takes a holistic approach to well-being, not just focusing on the physical but also on the emotional, psychological, and spiritual. Palliative care includes end-of-life care, but can be offered at any point after a terminal diagnosis.
At Wolfeton Manor, our priority is ensuring that your loved one maintains their grace and dignity throughout every stage of the care. To achieve this, we create bespoke care plans that suit the individual and their families.
At our palliative care home, we want to create a home-from-home for all our residents while providing the best possible care. No matter how long your loved one stays with us, we encourage their room to be personalised. Each room also has the space for any equipment needed, enabling exceptional care to be delivered 24 hours a day.
We apply a person-centred approach to all aspects of care, and this approach is never more important than when a resident begins receiving end-of-life care.
Since the residents will always be the centre of our work, we will collaborate with them and their families to develop a care plan that is centred around their needs and preferences.
These care plans are flexible and allow our staff to monitor and react to changes when needed. Any change will be discussed with family members, but our priority will be adjusting the plan to ensure your loved one is comfortable.
Our staff are highly experienced and have received the best possible training in the form of the Gold Standard Framework, meaning you can be confident that your loved one will receive high-quality yet compassionate palliative care at our home.
Our care plans centre on the person receiving care, but our staff members are skilled and trained to also support the family during this sensitive period because we know that this is not just about the residents but also their families.
For many care homes, writing comprehensive care plans, keeping them up to date, and communicated with residents’ families can be a time consuming task for care staff. As it is essential, we looked into how we can continue to provide our high level of care whilst ensuring all administration and care planning is kept up to date.
We use Person Centred Software, a fantastic electronic care management system to alleviate pressure on care staff, make documenting care plans quicker and ensure all residents are safe, comfortable and happy.

- Gold Standards Framework
We are proud that our palliative care home has been certified as a Platinum Home from the Gold Standards Framework (GSF). In order to qualify for this accreditation, we undertook a 9-month training programme and put what we learned into practice. We were then required to undertake a rigorous assessment, which included a visit from a member of GSF.
Having implemented this ‘Gold Standard’ of end-of-life care for many years now, we are proud to have maintained the GSF Platinum Home status. This is evidence of our ongoing commitment to providing the very best palliative care, allowing residents to live out the remainder of their lives to the fullest.
We understand that putting your loved one into a residential care home for palliative care can be an upsetting and daunting experience; you will want to feel certain that you are making the right decision. Our care team are here to put your mind at ease and can discuss any concerns you may have.
For residents, our palliative care home is a home away from home, and we work hard to ensure that every single resident receiving end-of-life care with us is living a life that is comfortable, enriched, and fulfilled. Our dedication to providing first-class care, as well as preserving a warm and friendly atmosphere, means that we’re able to offer the very best care in Dorchester.
If you are looking for sensitive and warm-hearted palliative care for a loved one, we recommend booking a visit to our care home. On your visit, you will be able to speak to our staff and residents to learn more about our approach and the lifestyle we offer, even for those receiving end-of-life care, and get a feel for the home.
